President Bola Tinubu has arrived in the Ikeja area of Lagos State to officially open the Lagos Red Line rail.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had previously announced in December 2023 during the unveiling of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Ikeja Overpass that Tinubu would inaugurate the rail before the end of the first quarter of 2024.
Sanwo-Olu stated that once operational, the Red Line rail is expected to transport approximately 500,000 passengers daily.
“The completion and official commissioning of this vital infrastructure marks a significant step towards the commencement of passenger services on the Red Line, which will be inaugurated by our esteemed President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the first quarter of next year.
“Over the past four and a half years of our administration, we have prioritized the implementation of our integrated transportation system as part of the traffic management and transportation pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda. Consequently, we have delivered transport infrastructures that enhance the lives of the average Lagosian.
“The LRMT Red Line rail system, the first phase of which we anticipate will serve over 500,000 passengers daily, spans 27 kilometers from Agbado to Oyingbo, with stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and terminating at Oyingbo,” Sanwo-Olu said.
