President Bola Tinubu, on Friday, bestowed the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of Nigeria (GCON) on the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. The honour recognizes Oba Sikiru Adetona’s immense and invaluable contributions to national development.
Tinubu presented the honour during the celebration of the Awujale’s 90th birthday, held at the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President at the ceremony.
In addition to the national honour, Tinubu announced that the management of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance, which the royal father generously bequeathed to the university, will now be overseen by the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.
The President praised the Awujale as an exceptional royal leader and a champion of Nigerian democracy, revered across the nation for his steadfastness and bravery in advancing national development despite challenges.
