“Breath of Life” Sweeps 2024 AMVCA with 5 Awards: Full List of Winners Revealed

The Prime Video original, “Breath of Life,” emerged as the big winner of the 2024 African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), securing a remarkable five awards, all in major categories.

Held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, the AMVCA brought together Africa’s finest cinema creators under one roof.

While “Over the Bridge” and “Mami Wata” led the nominations with 12 and 11 respectively, “Breath of Life” stole the spotlight with its five wins, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Lead Actor, Best Director, and the prestigious Best Movie award.

Chimezie Imo, a lead actor in “Breath of Life,” was not initially nominated, but he left the event victorious, clinching the Trailblazer Award.

Other notable winners included “Over the Bridge” and “Jagun Jagun,” both securing two awards each. However, “Mami Wata,” the critically acclaimed black-and-white fantasy thriller by CJ Obasi, managed to secure only one award for Best Makeup.

Notably, Funke Akindele’s “A Tribe Called Judah” and Kayode Kasum’s “Afamefuna” failed to secure wins in the categories they were nominated for.
