Buratai vows to crush banditry in Zamfara

The chief of army staff Lieutenant General Yufuf Buratai has reassured that his troops will remain committed to the security of lives and property of citizens of Zamfara, with assurance that the menace will soon be wiped out.

The army chief disclosed this today at a formal commissioning of a permanent site for the Headquarters 1 brigade Nigerian Army relocated from Sokoto.

He said he has no doubt that the new brigade will make appreciable impact towards restoration of peace and security in the state, considering the caliber of its leadership and operational experience of troops of the brigade.

Gen. Buratai, who was represented by Major General Hakeem Otiki, commanding officer infantry Abuja, reassures that he will continue to support the internal security operations in Zamfara with all the requisite equipments and military might to end the scourge of banditry in the state.

He expressed appreciation to governor Abdulaziz Yari for his timely gesture in donating a befitting complex as Headquarters of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army which he said will go a long way in assisting the military in wiping out banditry and other forms of criminality from the state.

Earlier, the General officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Stevenson O. Olabanji said the commissioning of the 1Brigade is historical having participated in the Nigerian Civil War and in many other international and National operations.

He said the relocation of 1 Brigade to Gusau has come at a very timely moment, especially with the current security challenges facing the state.

He thanks the governor of the state for donating the befitting edifice as the brigade Headqauters, expressing hope that it will add value to ongoing Operation “Sharan Daji” military exercise.

In his response, Governor Abdulaziz Yari who was represented by the Secretary to the state government Professor Abdullahi Muhammad Shinkafi said the state government has committed huge resources to the fight against security challenge in the state.

Professor shinkafi who commissions the new Headqauters stated that the government, in addition to financial commitment to security has also donated similar structures in Gusau, Mafara and Kaura where military schools for boys and girls were established.

The SSG reassures the government commitment to continue partnening with the military and other security organs in the task of liberating Zamfara from the lingering security challenge.
