Burna Boy Expresses Sympathy for Wizkid’s Loss of Mother

By Daniel Edu

Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has extended his condolences to fellow musician Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, in the wake of his mother’s passing.

Wizkid’s close associate confirmed the unfortunate news that the singer’s mother had passed away after a short illness. Mrs. Balogun, who had been a steadfast pillar of support for her son’s burgeoning music career, was often seen displaying her unwavering encouragement from the sidelines during concerts. She passed away in the early hours of Friday, August 18, 2023.

Wizkid’s longstanding manager, Sunday Aare, also verified the tragic news to The Punch, stating, “Yes, she died this morning, at about 1.30 am.”

During his concert in Detroit, Burna Boy took a poignant moment to honor the memory of the departed. Addressing the audience, he referred to Wizkid as his brother and acknowledged the depth of his grief. Burna Boy empathized with the pain Wizkid must be feeling, acknowledging that he himself couldn’t fathom the loss of his own mother.

“Before I proceed, one of my brothers lost his mother, Wizkid. I want to say Rest In Peace to his mother. I can’t imagine how it would be to lose my own mama,” Burna Boy conveyed in his heartfelt message.
