CCECC releases CSR report, commits to the development of Nigeria

Nigeria’s foremost construction giant, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) Nigeria Limited has released its 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report with a commitment to execute projects that would contribute to the infrastructural development of Nigeria.

The Report titled: “Bolstering Confidence and Jointly Overcoming Difficulties,” pledged and reiterated its commitment to, “contributing to a better Nigeria.”
The report which was jointly signed by Jiang Yigao Chairman, CCECC Nigeria Ltd and Zhang Zhichen Managing Director, CCECC Nigeria Ltd noted that the the year 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria as well as the 40th anniversary of the founding of CCECC Nigeria.

It noted that in forty years CCECC have forged long-standing friendship with Nigeria, as well as pursued consistent efforts in creating quality infrastructure projects and providing related services.

“As relations between China and Nigeria keep deepening, our practical cooperation with Nigerian stakeholders is beginning to bear fruit. At the moment, we have launched businesses in 29 states across Nigeria, covering general contracting, project contracting, project management, and consulting services for railways, highways, bridges, municipal projects, housing projects, water projects, and so on” the report stated.

. Committed to “providing Nigeria with quality infrastructure and services”, we have established close partnerships with stakeholders to contribute to a China-Nigeria community with a shared future. Upholding honest operations and guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, we strictly abide by local laws and regulations, and serve local governments and people’s livelihood with superior projects. To serve local development, we boost local employment with cultivating professionals as the starting point, build talent training platforms to accelerate technology transfer, promote cultural integration of international teams, and drive the common development of local small and medium-sized suppliers. In pursuit of green development, we make constant efforts to enhance local ecological balance during the construction of green projects and minimize the impacts of our construction projects on the environment. Devoted to improving local livelihood, we actively fulfill social responsibility and organize and participate in community activities. All our efforts will contribute to the significant changes of Nigeria’s economic and social development and the improvement of the quality of life. After the outbreak of COVID-19, we assisted Nigeria in building mobile cabin hospitals for COVID-19 patients on the premise of our effective COVID-19 response, once again proving the camaraderie between China and Nigeria in weal and woe. Only the belief in great truths and win-win cooperation can lead to long-term development. In the future, CCECC Nigeria will continue to pursue sustainable development, make greater efforts to fulfill corporate social responsibility, deepen cooperation with all stakeholders, and promote the high-quality Belt and Road development. We will pool all resources to contribute to Nigeria’s stable development in the long run and create a better future with the joint efforts of both sides.

The 90-page report is a survey of the company’s remarkable accomplishment as a multinational company and global player in the construction industry with projects in over 108 countries and regions of the world.

The Nigerian subsidiary established in 1996 and has carried out projects in 29 states of the federation in diverse fields such as general contracting, project contracting, project management and consulting services for railways, highways, bridges, municipal projects, housing and water projects among others.

“With Nigeria as a major partner of the China’s initiated framework of International Cooperation Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI), featuring Infrastructure connectivity, the CCECC Nigeria Ltd has been in the frontline of executing key projects in Nigeria that give practical expression to The Belt and Road cooperation.

“Beyond construction of critical Infrastructure projects, CCECC also facilitate projects that enhance local capacity building and industrialisation.

“The construction of the University of Transportation in Daura, Katsina State, the first of its kind in Africa and the Kajola Rail wagon Assembly plants in Oyo State built in line with Chinese standard, the first in West Africa, are the company’s commitment to executing CSR that would concretely advance the course of Nigeria’s economic recovery and sustainable growth in the near and long run.

“Other key milestones of the company in executing its corporate social responsibility includes its staunch efforts in the containment and control of the COVID-19 pandemic, through donation of medical equipment like ventilators and oxygen generators, face masks, sets of protective clothing and other protective gears,” it added.

The report stated that the company was committed to, “striding with Nigeria”, noting that the CCECC Nigeria Limited enriched a “China-Nigeria Community with a shared future,” during the COVID-19 pandemic, insisting that the company has maintained its tradition of guaranteeing the rights and interests of employees, nurturing professionals through a pre-Job training mechanism to integrate employees to its values.

The report provided insights to the company’s support and engagement with communities where it operates and also outlined elaborate welfare package dispensed to support communities, stressing that it looks forward to a long term engagement with Nigeria and to continue to share responsibility in the future of Nigeria.
