Champion Breweries Launches Beverages in Canned Formats

By Ogenyi Ogenyi, Uyo

Champion Breweries Plc. has unveiled its flagship beverages, Champion Lager Beer and Champ Malta, in non-returnable cans, marking a historic milestone in the company’s 50-year legacy. This move represents the first time the homegrown brand has adopted the CAN format, signaling a new chapter in its journey of innovation and growth.

The announcement, made yesterday in Uyo, highlights Champion Breweries’ commitment to meeting growing consumer demand for convenience, portability, and on-the-go refreshment. The new packaging aligns with evolving market trends while reinforcing Champion Breweries’ status as a proudly Nigerian brand.

The cans will initially be distributed across strategic markets, with plans for further expansion to other regions.

Dr. Inalegwu Adoga, Managing Director/CEO of Champion Breweries Plc., expressed his excitement over the development:

“This is a proud moment for Champion Breweries. After 50 years of brewing excellence, the launch of our products in CAN formats is a testament to our commitment to innovation and growth. This move not only enhances consumer convenience but also reflects our continuous effort to adapt to market dynamics while staying true to the quality that Champion is known for.”

Mr. Anthony Osagwu, Head of Sales and Commercial Excellence, described the launch as a strategic step in the company’s growth plan.

“We have listened closely to our distributors, bulk breakers, and consumers. The introduction of cans aligns with market preferences, especially in regions where non-returnable packaging is increasingly sought after. This launch allows us to penetrate new market segments and expand our reach beyond the South-South and South-East regions.”

Queen Nwabueze, Champion Breweries’ Marketing and Brand Manager, emphasized the brand’s commitment to staying relevant in a changing market.

“Champion has always stood for heritage and quality. By introducing cans for the first time, we are not just embracing modern packaging; we are also positioning Champion as a brand that evolves with its consumers. This launch is part of our larger vision to grow our market share and resonate with younger, dynamic consumers who value convenience without compromising taste.”

Headquartered in Akwa Ibom State, Champion Breweries Plc. has been a leader in regional brewing since its establishment in 1974. Its portfolio includes Champion Premium Quality Lager Beer, Champ Malta, Champion Lager with Ginger Extract, Champ Malt with Tiger Nut, and Champ Malt with Butter Cookies.

Champion Breweries remains committed to excellence, innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, with a vision of becoming the undisputed market leader in the South-South region and progressively expanding its presence across Nigeria and beyond.
