Chinese Firms Stimulating Growth in Nigeria – Speaker Abbas

Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, says Chinese enterprises have played a significant role in Nigeria’s economic growth and development.

The Speaker made the disclosure while hosting Mr. Hu Chunchua, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Friday.

In his remarks, Abbas said the contributions of Chinese companies in constructing roads, railways, airports, and other public utilities have not only enhanced connectivity but also stimulated economic progress in Nigeria.

“These endeavors are closely aligned with the legislative priorities of this House, which focus on economic diversification, job creation, and the modernization of our national infrastructure,” the Speaker noted.

He stated that under the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives, the Nigeria-China Parliamentary Friendship Group has emerged as one of the most dynamic forums for strengthening ties between legislators from both countries.

“Through regular engagements, exchange visits, and collaborative initiatives, this friendship group has played an indispensable role in deepening the bonds of friendship and mutual understanding between our two nations.

“The National Assembly remains committed to establishing a robust legislative framework to attract investments in critical sectors such as energy production and technology transfer, which are essential for Nigeria’s sustainable development, Speaker Abbas added.

He assured the Chinese delegation of Nigeria’s steadfast support for the “One China Principle” and the deepening of cooperation through platforms such as the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

In his remarks, Mr. Chunchua said he is in Nigeria to enhance communication and cooperation between the CPPCC and relevant institutions, aiming to implement the agreements reached between both countries at the 2024 FOCAC Summit in Beijing.
