Civil Society Coalition Defends Akpabio, Calls for Unity in Senate Amid Ningi Suspension Dispute

A coalition of civil society organizations has come to the defense of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, asserting that criticism against him undermines the credibility of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. The coalition supports the decision to suspend Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, citing it as necessary to uphold order and discipline within the Senate.

Comprising Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), Guardians of Democracy and Development (GODD), and Partners for a Legislative Agenda for Nigeria (PLAN), these CSOs urge Senators to prioritize national development over regional interests.

The coalition’s statement follows reports of Northern interest groups protesting Ningi’s suspension. They caution against the influence of divisive groups within the Senate, advocating for unity in the legislative body and the nation at large.

Regarding Ningi’s allegations of budget padding, the coalition questions his motives and condemns his actions as an attempt to discredit the Senate President and the government. They emphasize the importance of respecting established Senate procedures for addressing grievances.

In conclusion, the coalition calls on Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration and the Senate in their efforts to restore prosperity and economic recovery.
