Cleric Urges Government to Focus on Grassroots Development

Leke Adeboye, the Lead Pastor at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Seed, The Bridge, Ikeja, Lagos, has called on the Nigerian government to prioritize grassroots needs and enhance citizen engagement.

In an interview during the “Jesus in the Park” crusade held at Ikeja City Mall on Sunday, Adeboye emphasized the importance of maintaining strong connections with the grassroots, similar to the efforts made by politicians during election campaigns.

“The current situation stems from long-standing issues of bad governance and poor judgment. Improving things will require collective effort and prayer. Politicians are very active and visible when seeking votes, holding town hall meetings and campaigning vigorously. Once elected, they should continue this engagement to truly understand and address the people’s needs,” Adeboye stated.

He advised the government to revisit and address past issues while maintaining open communication with citizens. “Communicating the actions and plans of the government helps people understand the current situation, the timeline for changes, and the need for patience. The same energy used in campaigning should be applied while in office, especially at the grassroots level,” the cleric added.

Discussing the concept behind “Jesus in the Park,” Adeboye explained, “The goal is to extend the church’s reach beyond its four walls and preach the gospel in public spaces like supermarkets, malls, and shopping centers. Just as Jesus shared His message, healed people, and fed them, we aim to do the same. We offer prayers, free medical checkups, and food to the community.”

The event registered about 3,000 attendees by 10 a.m., with provisions made for at least 5,000 people. Adeboye emphasized, “We are striving to reach people just as Jesus did, and that is our mission today.”

During his sermon, Pastor Adebayo Akinduyite highlighted the significance of each soul accepting Christ, stating, “There is rejoicing in heaven whenever a soul gains access. Living uprightly for God is essential.”

The outdoor event saw over 4,000 individuals enjoying sermons and vibrant praise songs led by gospel artists like Pastor Kunle Ajayi, Bidemi Olaoba, BeejaySax, Uche Okereke, Blessing Lopez, and others. Attendees also received free medical checkups, including dental and eye exams, makeovers, eyeglasses, food, beverages, clothing, and other gifts.
