Commodore Christian Okokota has officially assumed duty as the new Commander of the in Yenagoa, .
The handover ceremony, held on Friday, saw Okokota take over from Commodore Omobamidele Akinbami, who had commanded the naval establishment since January 27, 2025.
In his acceptance remarks, Commodore Okokota expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff, , for the confidence reposed in him to lead the command.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the Chief of the Naval Staff’s vision and mission, as well as the broader objectives of the command, while commending the achievements recorded under his predecessor.
The new commander pledged to consolidate on existing gains, ensure strict compliance with operational directives and maintain a high level of readiness to address prevailing security challenges in the region.
He also aligned his priorities with the directives of the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral , noting that synergy and discipline would remain central to the command’s operations.
Okokota called on officers, ratings and civilian personnel to extend maximum cooperation and support to enable the command effectively discharge its mandate.
In his valedictory speech, the outgoing commander, Commodore Akinbami, appreciated the officers and men of the command for their dedication and teamwork during his tenure. He also thanked the Chief of the Naval Staff for the opportunity to serve and urged personnel to accord his successor the same level of support.
NNS SOROH plays a critical role in maritime security operations under the Central Naval Command, particularly in combating oil theft, illegal refining, piracy and other criminal activities within the Niger Delta waterways.
