Court Overturns Suspension of Pro-Fubara Lawmaker by PDP

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The Rivers State High Court has ruled in favor of federal lawmaker Awaji-Inombek Abiante, overturning his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Abiante, who represents the Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro federal constituency, was suspended in May by a parallel PDP Ward Caretaker Executive loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The suspension was based on allegations of anti-party activities and promoting factionalism, but Justice G.O. Ollor declared it unconstitutional, citing a lack of a fair hearing and the faction’s unlawful authority to suspend Abiante.

Abiante, in response, criticized the suspended faction as illegitimate members, claiming their goal was to disrupt the progress of Rivers State under Governor Fubara’s leadership.
