COVID-19: A’Ibom reopens hotels, reduces curfew to eight hours

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has approved the reopening of hotels and other leisure centres in the state, four months after they were closed down due to Coronavirus pandemic.

The Governor has also approved a two hour reduction in the night curfew from 8pm-6am to 10pm-6am now, according to a statement from Secretary to the State Government Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem.

The statement was made available to newsmen in Uyo yesterday.

“As we continue to gradually unlock our economy, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has approved the re-opening of hotels and leisure centres in Akwa Ibom State.

“His Excellency the Governor has also approved a review of the subsisting curfew to start from 10pm to 6am daily with effect from Tuesday , August 04, 2020.” The statement said.

It however enjoined all hotels and lesiure centres to ensure strict compliance with the State/National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, guidelines and protocols on COVID-19 applicable to the hospitality sector.

Monitoring teams the statement added would monitor and where necessary force compliance on hospitality centres that would default.

“All hotels and leisure centres in the state are urged to ensure strict compliance with the AKSG/NCDC/WHO COVID-19 guidelines and protocols that are applicable to the hospitality and allied services operations.

“Monitoring Teams, comprising COVID-19 Management Committee and Akwa Ibom State Hotels Management and Tourism Board will enforce strict compliance .” The statement concluded.
