The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday suspended five prominent members, including its former governorship candidate, Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the State Working Committee (SWC) following a meeting held in Lokoja.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, the party cited “disloyalty” and “insubordination” as grounds for the disciplinary action.
The SWC specifically referenced an incident at Harris Hotel in Abuja, where some members allegedly usurped the powers of the party’s leadership and engaged in actions deemed contrary to the ADC constitution.
Other suspended members, according to the statement, include Dr. Idris Omede (Abejide’s running mate in the last Kogi governorship election), Hon. Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo, and Olabode Kayode.
The party’s leadership noted that the decision was made in line with the ADC constitution and followed a review of the members’ conduct since the 2023 general elections.
It further stated that the suspended members, particularly Abejide and Omede, failed to honour earlier invitations to appear before the committee for a fair hearing.
The affected individuals have now been directed to appear before the ADC National Working Committee for a disciplinary hearing at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 12 noon.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Working Committee unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and the State Secretary, John Adaji Udale.
