CSO Urges Completion of Kaduna, Warri Refineries to Boost Nigeria’s Oil Capacity

By  Milcah   Tanimu

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria calls for the completion of Kaduna and Warri refineries, following the successful re-streaming of the Port Harcourt Refinery, to enhance Nigeria’s refining capacity. has applauded the successful re-streaming of the Port Harcourt Refinery, a significant milestone in Nigeria’s economic recovery. The group recognized President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to petroleum sector reforms and commended the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), particularly Chief Pius Akinyelure and CEO Mele Kyari.

However, the CSO stressed the need for the completion and resumption of operations at the dormant Kaduna and Warri refineries. This, it believes, will further boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.

Executive Director Blessing Akinlosotu emphasized that this achievement, which saw the first successful loading of petroleum products from the Port Harcourt refinery after years of challenges, marks a critical step towards energy self-sufficiency. He also urged NNPCL to enhance its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, especially in host communities, to ensure smooth operations.

The CSO remains optimistic about the continued progress in Nigeria’s energy sector and is committed to collaborating with government and industry stakeholders to ensure sustainable energy security for the country.
