CSOs Laud Tinubu For Appointing Olatunji Bello As FCCPC CEO

…Back Bello to revamp FCCPC

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Nigeria have commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Olatunji Bello as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Vice-Chairman (EVC) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).

The Pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy CSOs which are over 70 in number described the appointment of Bello as “wise, timely and square peg in a square hole”.

The Convener of Campaign for Dignity in Governance & Coalition of 70 Civil Society Organizations, Razaq Olokoba welcomed the development in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

Olokoba noted: “We congratulate Olatunji Bello on his appointment while saluting President Bola Tinubu for making such a choice. What Mr. President has done is a confirmation that his government does not accommodate mediocrity but well-bred professionals who can help him bring his renewed hope agenda to reality.

“Given Bello’s tracked record, we do not doubt he will deliver on the job. Without equivocation, I tell you that the civil society community believes Bello’s expertise and experience will help in protecting and promoting the interest and welfare of Nigerian consumers, as well as ensure the adoption of measures to guarantee the safety and quality of goods and services in Nigeria”.

Bello’s appointment became public knowledge through a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president, media, and publicity.

The statement added that “Bello is a lawyer, administrator, and renowned journalist.
“He is the former secretary to the Lagos State Government and holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos. He studied Law at the same university and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

Bello’s appointment is pending confirmation by the Senate. His appointment comes six months after Tinubu removed Babatunde Irukera as the CEO and EVC.
