Delta Partners Energy Firms to Improve Power Supply, Targets Expanded Electricity Access

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reaffirmed plans to improve electricity supply through partnerships with energy and infrastructure experts, as part of efforts to support economic growth. Speaking during a meeting in Asaba with representatives of Power Acumen Consulting Ltd, Detail Solicitors and the Nigeria Infrastructure Bank, the governor said challenges in the power sector are largely linked to distribution rather than generation.

He said the state government is pursuing reforms and infrastructure investments under its “Light Up to Industrialise Delta State Initiative,” aimed at improving electricity access for homes and businesses. Oborevwori noted that a joint technical team involving the state and Power Acumen Consulting Ltd would be established to develop a roadmap for improving power supply. He added that while achieving uninterrupted electricity may take time, ongoing efforts are expected to yield measurable progress.

The governor also said some communities that had experienced prolonged blackouts have recently been reconnected to the national grid, with further projects targeting key economic corridors.According to him, the state has enacted an electricity law and engaged consultants to review policies and recommend practical solutions to sector challenges.

Earlier, Managing Director of Power Acumen Consulting Ltd, Matthew Edevbie, said Delta State has an installed generation capacity of about 3,000 megawatts but currently receives significantly less power, highlighting inefficiencies in distribution. He added that with improved coordination and regulatory alignment, electricity supply could improve in major cities such as Warri and Asaba.
