Delta State signs N3bn maternal health care centre contract

The Delta Government has signed an agreement with a construction firm to build a N3 billion maternal healthcare center and diagnostic laboratory in Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye, on Thursday in Asaba signed for the state government, while Mrs Julee Lee signed for NJZC Construction Limited and SINOMA Investment International.

Ononye said at the ceremony that the construction of the health facility was part of the measures being taken to by government to check the high maternal and child death ratios in the state and nation at large.

The commissioner, who assured Delta residents of government’s commitment to the provision of quality mother and child care, said the facility would help improve maternal health care in the state.

He said the N3 billion project, when completed, would be of immense benefit to the residents of the state and people from the neigbouring states.

Ononye further said that the period for the contract execution was 14 months, and added that the project would be jointly financed by the contractor and the state government.

According to him, the contract will be executed through finance and build model, under which the contractor would bear 70 per cent of the cost, while government would shoulder the remaining 30 per cent .

The commissioner gave the assurance that the state Ministry of Health would render necessary assistance that needed to ensure speedy completion of the project.

In her remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NJZC International Limited, Mrs Lee, assured the state government that the company would complete the project on time and in line with the specifications.

Also speaking, the Project Consultant, Mr. Joe Uzoka, said that the company had, before the formal contract signing, mobilised to site due to the trust it had in Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.

Uzoka, however, requested that other administrative procedures be completed speedily to enable the company to execute the project within the stipulated time.
