Deputy Speaker Commends Speedy Passage of N979.2 Billion Appropriation Bill

The Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, has expressed satisfaction with the swift passage of the N979.2 billion 2025 Appropriation Bill, dubbed the “Budget of Fiscal Consolidation.”

In a statement issued in Asaba, Akpowowo lauded the legislative process, noting that the budget’s approval demonstrates the government’s commitment to fostering growth and development in Delta State.

“This budget reflects our dedication to improving the lives of Deltans,” he stated. Akpowowo expressed confidence that the fiscal plan would positively impact the state’s economy and infrastructure.

Acknowledging the significant responsibilities ahead, the Deputy Speaker urged state Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure funds are accessed and utilized efficiently and effectively.

“As Deputy Speaker, I pledge to work closely with Mr. Speaker and other stakeholders to ensure that this budget translates into tangible benefits for our citizens. Transparency and accountability will guide the implementation process to guarantee that every naira is judiciously spent,” he emphasized.

He also reaffirmed the legislature’s collaboration with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to deliver on the promises of the fiscal plan, aiming to bring positive change to the state.

Suspended Members Face Investigation

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker, who represents Ethiope East Constituency, has been appointed to oversee the investigation of alleged gross misconduct by two suspended members of the House.

Hon. Chukwudi Dafe (Ukwuani Constituency) and Hon. Oboro Preyor (Bomadi Constituency) were suspended for 14 legislative days following allegations of misconduct.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor announced the formation of a three-member ad hoc committee to investigate the matter during Wednesday’s plenary.

The committee includes Hon. Bridget Anyafulu (Oshimili South) and Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South 2) as members, while Mr. Smart Edoge, a Deputy Clerk of the House, will serve as the committee’s clerk.

The investigation aims to uphold the integrity of the House and ensure accountability within its ranks.
