Diri advises federal lawmakers not to neglect their constituents

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State calls upon the National Assembly members representing the state to prioritize the welfare and concerns of their constituents while carrying out their responsibilities as federal lawmakers.He urged the lawmakers to maintain close connections with their respective constituents to ensure their continued relevance, particularly in light of the recent inauguration of the 10th National Assembly. The Governor delivered this message during a special reception held by the Bayelsa State Government in Abuja on Tuesday, specifically for the elected Senators and members of the House of Representatives.Governor Diri emphasized that as representatives of the people, it is crucial for the lawmakers to establish and maintain a strong bond with their constituents and constituencies. By doing so, they can ensure that the people feel a sense of belonging and active participation in the democratic process.During his speech at the event, Governor Diri extended his congratulations to the elected lawmakers for their victory at the polls and their inauguration as members of the House of Representatives and Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He reminded them that while they represent Bayelsa State in Abuja, the capital city, their primary address should always be their respective constituencies.

Governor Diri emphasized the importance of staying connected with the grassroots and the people who elected them. He urged the lawmakers to be aware of the needs and aspirations of their constituents, as well as to be their advocates and champions in the National Assembly, while also working for the greater interest of Nigeria as a whole.

Additionally, Governor Diri took the opportunity to express his condolences to the families of the supporters of Bayelsa Queens Football Club. Unfortunately, four of them lost their lives in a road accident while on their way to Asaba for a scheduled match against Delta Queens.Governor Diri encouraged the people to maintain their trust in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasizing that out of the 17 parties, only the PDP is dedicated to delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Solomon Agwanana, expressed gratitude for the support given to the party by the people, highlighting that the PDP has achieved representation in all the Federal Constituencies and three Senatorial Districts for the first time. He stressed the party’s commitment to improving the lives of the people and urged everyone to sustain their efforts.

Furthermore, former Deputy Governor Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah called upon the federal lawmakers to prioritize the interests of the people as they embark on their legislative duties in the coming weeks.

The Governor, PDP State Chairman, and former Deputy Governor all praised the Diri-led government for its development-focused programs and urged continued support from the people to achieve more progress.He emphasized the significance of effective representation, stating that while oversight responsibilities are essential, the lawmakers should make a concerted effort to remain connected with the people they represent. He reminded them that their primary duty is to defend the interests of Nigerians as federal lawmakers in the National Assembly. Governor Diri expressed confidence that they would excel in their roles, highlighting that they were chosen by the people from a pool of other candidates.
