The Senior Special Assistant and Focal Person on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Dr. Ebiwari Wariowei has commended Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri for his commitment towards the attainment of the 17 SDGs in the state.

Dr. Wariowei gave the commendation following Governor Diri’s visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States, last week.

The State Focal Person on Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), in a statement issued by the press Secretary, Mr.Pereokosifa Buseni , on Saturday, noted that during the visit, Governor Diri met the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Amina Mohammed, and asked for sustained collaboration with the UN.

The SSA-SDGs said the call for collaboration with the UN was apt, timely and in the best interest of a state like Bayelsa which is desirous of growth in all frontiers.

He called on the UN and other development partners to join hands with the Prosperity Government so as to consolidate on the steps taken by the Senator Diri to help speedup development in the state.

Dr. Wariowei stressed that Bayelsa is in dire need for development partners who will collaborate with government in key areas like education, health, women and youth empowerment, tourism, food production and processing, environment among others.

He said Senator Diri has demonstrated uncommon commitment and passion for development by building critical infrastructure that will provide great opportunities to open up the state for more investments in different sectors.

According to him, Governor Diri is using the Bayelsa SDGs Office to drive his Prosperity Agenda by implementing key projects and programmes like the distribution 100 hospital beds, mattresses and cupboards to selected primary health centres across the eight LGAs and award of 12.5 km rural roads to open of various LGAs.

Other laudable achievements include, the 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital built by SDGs in collaboration with the federal government, empowerment and vocational training of over 300 Bayelsans in catering, fashion design, shoemaking, digital marketing and design, building of vocational training centre at Sampou, among several others.

He however urged citizens to support government’s effort to ensure Bayelsa is peaceful, stable, secured and prosperous, adding that with less than two years left in Senator Diri’s first tenure, many laudable projects and programmes will be launched to make life meaningful for all.
