By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice** in Abuja has begun hearing a lawsuit filed by Reverend Joseph Hayab, former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State**, against the Federal Government of Nigeria** over the demolition of a church at Kaduna State University (KASU).

The suit (ECW/CCJ/APP/40/23)**, filed in **October 2023, came up for hearing on Friday, February 28, 2025, in Abuja. Reverend Hayab is challenging the demolition of the only church on KASU’s main campus, allegedly carried out under the administration of former Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

In addition, the Kaduna State Government was accused of attempting to forcibly take over the Chapel of Goodnews**, which shares a fence with the university but has a separate ownership structure.
