The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) branch in Gure, alongside grieving family members, is calling for justice following the tragic death of an Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) pastor in Kaduna. The pastor, serving in the Kaduna Central District Church Council, fell victim to an attack by bandits along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna road on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024.
Reports indicate that the pastor, identified as Rev. Manasseh, was returning from an official church assignment in the Kurebe area of Birnin Gwari local government when the assailants struck. Reverend Manasseh had dedicated his service to the ECWA community in Kaduna Central District Church Council.
In a joint press statement issued by the family and CAN Chairman, Rev. Yahaya Kinge, the call for justice reverberates. The statement urges both the administration of Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure justice for the slain cleric.
Expressing frustration, the statement highlights the exasperation felt by Nigerian youth and women, who are directly impacted by the scourge of banditry and insurgency. The failure of the federal government to stem the tide of senseless killings has left communities in despair.
As of now, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor the state government has issued a statement regarding the incident. The pastor’s remains have been entrusted to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna.
