The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsinma, Katsina State, Professor Armayau Hamisu Bichi, over alleged bribery involving N19.7 million.
Bichi was brought before the Katsina State High Court by the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on a five-count charge bordering on bribery. He was arraigned alongside two other defendants, Lawal Tukur Mani and Aliyu Lawal Jari.The case is being heard by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar.
According to a statement issued by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the prosecution alleged that the former vice-chancellor received kickbacks through the second and third defendants from contractors. The payments were allegedly linked to contracts awarded by the Federal University, Dutsinma during Bichi’s tenure as vice-chancellor.All three defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read in court.
Following their pleas, prosecuting counsel, Salihu Sani, requested a trial date to enable the prosecution present witnesses and tender evidence. Justice Abubakar granted each defendant bail in the sum of N5 million, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until March 12, 2026, for the commencement of trial.The EFCC said the charges remain allegations until proven in court.
