Egg glut hits Plateau, government set to intervene

Plateau State Government said it has noted with concern that there is a significant glut of eggs in the state which is affecting most families particularly poultry farmers.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the State Prof. Danladi Abok Atu, the Government while acknowledging that the egg business is a thriving enterprise in the State and a source of income and sustainance for a large number of families, will do its best to address the situation.

A statement made available to newsmen in Jos reads that Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has directed that such excess eggs be immediately mopped up and distributed to Orphanages ,. Prisons, Schools and Hospitals

The statement further reads that ” Accordingly, the State Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources has been mandated to liaise with officials of the Poultry Farmers Association and relevant bodies to work out modalities for implementing the policy with immediate effect in order to save the industry from further decline. “

Members of the public and relevant organisations are urged to cooperate with the Government and its relevant agencies towards implementing this policy.
