Ekiti Monarch Escapes Gunmen Attack, Colleagues Killed

Oba Adebayo Fatoba, the Alara of Ara in Ekiti State, shared a harrowing experience of narrowly escaping gunmen who attacked him and two fellow monarchs. During an interview with Awikonko TV Live, Oba Fatoba revealed that while returning from a meeting, armed assailants targeted their convoy. The Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti lost their lives in the attack.

Fatoba, the lucky survivor, recounted the ordeal, highlighting that the community had sought police permission to address security concerns related to herders. The monarch described the attackers, noting their weaponry, including an AK-47, a pump-action gun, and a locally-made one.

As the vehicle abruptly stopped, Fatoba noticed guns pointed at them. In the chaos that ensued, he managed to escape, using the vehicle door to shield himself from an assailant’s strike. The monarch, emphasizing the severity of the situation, expressed pain from the cuts sustained during the attack.

Fatoba clarified that he fled to nearby security guards, countering claims of a mysterious disappearance. The assailants targeted him initially, but due to his resistance, they shifted focus. The police in Ekiti State have arrested a suspect, Babusa Lede, connected to the killings, with investigations ongoing to apprehend others involved.
