An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has invalidated the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi reinstated the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party led by Alaba Agboola.
The dissolution of the Ekiti State Executive Committee by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) in June, which led to the establishment of a caretaker committee under Sadiq Obanoye, was challenged by the Agboola-led SWC. The court, in its Tuesday judgment, declared the dissolution null and void and dismissed the caretaker committee.
Justice Ogunyemi issued a perpetual injunction restraining Umar Damagun (PDP acting National Chairman) and the PDP from recognizing the caretaker committee. The court also prohibited Obanoye and other members from presenting themselves as the Ekiti State Caretaker Committee and running the affairs of the PDP in the state.
Alaba Agboola, reacting to the judgment, emphasized the commitment of the reinstated SWC to bringing the PDP back to winning ways. He expressed loyalty to the national body and readiness to collaborate within the framework of the party’s constitution to move forward. Agboola highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law and the party’s constitution in their actions.
