Endless Impasse: Kano Govt revokes land allotted by ex- Gov Ganduje

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Kano State government under Abba Yusuf led administration has revoked lands allotted by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, between Kano State Polytechnic and the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, indicating an endless political impasse between the duo.

The revocation of the land was announced to journalists by the commissioner for lands and physical planning, Abduljabbar Umar, who stated that governor, Abba Yusuf, is empowered by section 28 of the Land Use Act, cap 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, to take that decision.

He said the state government had taken over the alternative site, which was also issued to the institution at Badume in the Bichi local government area by the immediate past regime.

“I wish to recast the minds of the members of the public to when we came on board on 29th May 2023. His excellency directed for development control activities to be kick-started over a lingering piece of land between the Kano State Polytechnic and the Aminu School of Remedial Studies.

“I wish to remind members of the public that following necessary due process, it has been established and confirmed that the layout implemented over the piece of land was done illegally.

“I hereby, by the powers conferred upon the executive governor of Kano State, by section 28 of the Land Use Act, cap 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which powers are delegated to him pursuant to the section 45 of the Act, I Alhaji Abduljabbar M. Umar, honourable commissioner ministry of lands and physical planning Kano state, do give you notice that the entire site under layout number TPNUPDA/366 has been reinstated to Aminu Kano College of Islamic Studies.

“The alternative site hitherto given to the school at Badume, Bichi local government area, has been revoked and reverted to the Kano State government.

“I hereby present this certificate to the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, ably represented by the deputy rector of the college,” he stated.

Receiving the land documents on behalf of the college, Deputy Rector Dija Isa expressed gratitude for the decision taken by the Kano state government.

“This is a very happy day for us at Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, in fact, not us alone but the people of Kano State as a whole.

“Because Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies is an institution of Kano state for our children and great-grandchildren and posterity, Insha Allah.

“This revocation of land had upset us; it had upset the people of Kano State as a whole because it was a setback in the education system,” he said.

“Now that we have our lands back, we are grateful to the Kano State government,” she stated.
