Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal reacts to confessional statement of impersonator Amina Mohammed

By Obisue Emmanuel

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, has distanced self from a confessional statement of Amina Mohammed, the alleged impersonator of Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, urging the public to disregard the report.

Mr. Babachir in a press statement described the confessional statement as ‘false and misleading’, adding that he had already briefed his lawyers on the appropriate legal action to be instituted.

“My attention was drawn to a confessional statement by a woman who goes by the name Amina Mohammed and several others, who were recently paraded by DSS operative on her alleged scams.

“In the said confessional statement which went viral, as sighted on the mass media and most social media platforms, the said suspect made desperate moves to link me to the ongoing investigation about her alleged crimes.

“I wish therefore to state unequivocally clear here that I do not know the said Amina Mohammed or any of her accomplices much less involved in the activities she is being accused of. I do not know the Mrs. Buhari’s sister named Maryatu she mentioned or anyone called Chicason whom she also mentioned.

“I am therefore at a total loss as to her motive or those of her sponsors for linking my name with her alleged criminal activities. I am not in the property business and do not, therefore, know anything about the sales of government properties.

“Therefore, I have briefed my lawyers on the matter, and in due course, an appropriate legal action will be instituted against her. In the meantime, I urge the general public to discountenance her claims.” The statement reads in part.

It will be recalled that Amina pretending to be the Kogi State first lady, gained entrance into the Presidential Villa, after which she impersonated the wife of the president and further invited one Dr Alexander Chika Okafor, whom she allegedly duped of N150 million over a Court of Appeal property in Lagos that he had interest in buying.

Upon her arrest and while being paraded by the Directorate of State Security, DSS in Abuja on Monday, Amina denied involvement in the said crime, alleging instead that Dr. Okafor, Mr. Babachir and one of the sisters of Aisha Buhari were responsible.
