The Lagos State Police Command has brought before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, one Umaru Abdul, for allegedly participating in impersonation and unlawfully donning a military uniform.

Abdul faced three counts of conspiracy to impersonate, forgery of an official identification card, and impersonation by posing as a military personnel.

According to reports, on January 11, 2024, Abdul falsely presented himself as a member of the Nigerian Army. He was apprehended in the Ijegun area of Lagos State wearing a Nigerian Army camouflage uniform and carrying an identity card bearing the insignia of the Nigerian Army, with the name tag “Abdul Umar” and the corporal rank.

During the arraignment at Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, the prosecutor, DSP Thomas Nurudeen, revealed that the defendant committed the alleged offences on January 11, 2024. He cited that the actions contravene Sections 411, 79(1)(a) and (b), and 78(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Nwaka ordered Abdul to be held in police custody until April 17, 2024, for sentencing.
