Fatal Auto Crash on UNILORIN Campus

A tragic auto accident occurred on the University of Ilorin campus on Thursday, resulting in one death and injuring nine others. The crash involved a ten-seater commercial bus transporting passengers from the university to the town.

The University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident, stating that the bus was carrying ten passengers when the accident happened. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and it is unclear whether they were a student or staff member.

Following the accident, university officials promptly initiated rescue operations, and the victims were taken to the University Health Centre. Five individuals sustained serious injuries, one of whom required advanced treatment and was transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after stabilization. Four others with minor injuries were treated and discharged. The remaining five victims, including the driver, are still receiving treatment at the health center.

The University management expressed deep regret over the incident, extended condolences to the deceased’s family, and wished a swift recovery for the injured.
