Federal Fire Service, FFS, Federal Capital Territory Command, has assured Abuja residents of swifter responses to any emergency to save lives and properties saying that its personnel were now on high morale to carry out their tasks.
The Command, however, appealed to residents to be safety conscious and never hesitate to call its emergency numbers when there is emergency.
Speaking yesterday during the decoration of 733 Officers who benefited in the recent promotion exercise, the Controller of the FCT Command, Suleiman Muhammad Anas, said the number of beneficiaries in the said promotion was the highest since the inception of the Command.
According to Anas, out of 733 Officers that benefited from the promotion, 3 Chief superintendent of Fire to Assistant Controllers, 36 Superintendent of Fire to Chief Superintendent of Fire, 22 Deputy Superintendent of Fire to Superintendent of Fire, 547 Assistant Superintendent of Fire I to Deputy Superintendent of Fire, 46 Assistant Superintendent of Fire II to Assistant Superintendent of Fire I and 79 Inspector of Fire to Assistant Superintendent of Fire II.
While praising FFS Controller General, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode for his personal efforts in ensuring the stride, he said: “It is natural that when Officers enjoy their promotion as at when due, they are motivated to give their best to the Service, it is therefore not out of place to use this opportunity to assure residents of FCT that our Men are in high morale by virtue of this promotion and are ready to give their 101% in ensuring the safety of lives and property in FCT.
“Our response to fires and other emergencies has been very swift but I assure FCT residents that with this additional morale booster, it will be swifter.
“All we request from residents of FCT is to be safety conscious and never hesitate to call our emergency numbers when there is emergency. Of course the earlier the emergency call the swifter the response.”
The Controller also charged the the decorated Officers to be loyal, dedicated and see the elevation as a call to do more for the Service.
“To our promoted Officers, I once again congratulate you. I want to use this opportunity to remind you of the saying, “To whom much is given, much is expected”. Of course it is no doubt that your Morales are boosted by virtue of this promotion, it therefore behooves on you to give more of your best in the discharge of your duties.
“The Service by extension the government has done it part in giving you what is due you, it is now on you to do the needful. I know you and I am rest assured that you will not disappoint.
“I want to use this opportunity to remind all promoted officers that, by virtue of this promotion there will be some rejigging within the Command and so be expecting some redeployment within the Command, which will be in the interest of giving the best to residents of FCT,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Command Operation Commander, Abdulganiyu Momodo, described the moment as a significant in the lives of the benefiaries and the FCT Command.
Momodu said, “For us at the Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, today is one of those moments that we are thankful to God, because we know that promotion comes from the Almighty.”
Some of the benefiaries of the current promotion included CSF Aisha Aliu; the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SF Barnabas Anyam; and, DSF Naimat Omeiza Ajayi.
The event was well attended by the representatives of the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Customs Service, NDLEA, Commander Guards Brigade, Commander Defence Headquarters Garrison, FRSC, DSS, FEMA, Director Deteriorate of Traffic Service, among others.
