FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Addresses Planned Nationwide Protest

By Milcah Tanimu

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has spoken out about the planned nationwide protest set for August 1, labeling it as “politically motivated” and intended to distract from the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

During an inspection tour of the Apo-Karshi Road in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike urged Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government as it tackles the nation’s challenges. He emphasized that the protest, organized under the banner of ‘EndBadGovernance,’ could negatively impact the economy and security, echoing President Tinubu’s earlier appeal to cancel the demonstration.

In addition to discussing the protest, Wike issued a seven-month ultimatum to the contractors working on the Apo-Karshi Road, expressing frustration over the slow progress despite 80% of the contract sum being paid. The project, initially awarded in 2011 during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, remains unfinished after 13 years, which Wike attributed to personal and political interests interfering with its completion.
