By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, on Monday wielded the big stick as it sealed up some properties including the PDP National Secretariat Headquarters, the Federal Internal Revenue Service ,FFIRS, Total Energy at Wuse and Access Bank building over non-payment of 25 years ground rent.

Director of Lands in FCTA, Mr Chijioke Nwakwoeze who lead the enforcement team, said that the affected properties sealed up have been taken over and now belong to the Administration.

Recall that on Friday last week FCTA announced that the administration on Monday 26 , May 2025 will commence sealing and taking over 4, 796 properties over non-payment of ground rent from ten to 25 years and above.

Nwakwoeze stated that the FIRS building, located in Wuse Zone 5, owed the FCTA ground rent for 25 years.
” Access Bank building, on Plot No. 2456, Wuse I, Cadastral Zone A02, Abuja, belong to Rana Tahir Furniture Nig. Ltd, and had not paid ground rent for 34 years”, he explained.

He said that by this the property has been reverted and therefore now belongs to the FCTA who has taken possession of it.

The Director Development Control, Mr Mukhtar Galadima, noted that the exercise is to take possession of all properties revoked in March.

Galadima also recounted FCTA’s decision to take possession of the more than 4,000 revoked properties in the territory.

He said, “So, today is just to comply with what we have said that we are going to take over all the revoked properties, and we are starting with plot 534 cadastral zone A02 at Wuse Zone 1, owned by Total PLC.”
