Fed Govt’s N52m for 2,600 Nasarawa women

The Federal Government has disbursed N52 million to 2,600 women in Nasarawa State in its effort to reduce the rate of poverty at the grassroots.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, who made the disbursement yesterday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital said the effort was to improve household consumption.

Sadiya said the money was to improve school enrollment, attendance and encourage household financial capacity.

The minister, who was represented by the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Abdullahi Mohammed, explained that Nasarawa State has received N3.2 billion from the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme.

Her words: “The social register is being expanded to cater for more poor and vulnerable households in Nasarawa State.”

Farouq, however, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity to increase their income.
