Federal Government Files New Charges Against Emefiele

In a recent development, the Federal Government has submitted a fresh set of charges against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. This move follows the government’s application to withdraw the previous charge of illegal possession of firearms. The Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, presented an oral application at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, attributing the withdrawal to the results of additional investigations.

Abubakar revealed that a new set of charges, totaling 20 counts, has been lodged against Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Abuja. This decision emerged after the earlier charges were brought against Emefiele on July 25, accusing him of “illegal possession of firearms,” during an arraignment at a federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
