FG Assures AFGSAN of Support to Boost Food Security

By Francis Wilfred

The Federal Government has assured the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) of support to enhance sustainable food security in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, gave the assurance when a delegation of AFGSAN led by its National President, Alhaji Haruna Ahmad Pambegua, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume noted that the association needs support to expand its role in food production. He assured the delegation that the administration would back its efforts and that he would present their requests to President Bola Tinubu for necessary action.

While commending AFGSAN’s contributions to food security, Akume highlighted government initiatives to revolutionize agriculture through mechanised farming. He said new tractors and trucks had been imported, and dams and roads constructed nationwide to boost food production. He also urged the association to help publicize the progress being made in the agricultural sector.

In his remarks, Pambegua praised the Tinubu administration for policies and programmes that he said have positively impacted Nigerians. He pledged AFGSAN’s continued support and called for federal assistance in providing tractors, fertilizers, and farm implements at subsidised rates to strengthen members’ capacity in food production and supply.
