FG ASUU MEETING DEADLOCKED

THERE SEEMS TO BE NO END IN SIGHT IN THE STRIKE BY THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES, ASUU AS THE MEETING AT THE INSTANCE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND THE MINISTER OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT, CHRIS NGIGE ENDED WITH NO CONCILIATIONS REACHED

THE MEETING IS RESCHEDULED TO CONTINUE NEXT WEEK WITH THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION ADAMU ADAMU AND THE STRIKING LECTURERS IN ATTENDANCE

THE STRIKING UNIVERSITY LECTURERS RESUMED DISCUSSIONS WITH THE MINISTER OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT ALMOST TWO WEEKS AFTER SEVERAL EFFORTS TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES THAT LED TO THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION WITH THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION FAILED.

ALTHOUGH THE MINISTER OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT WHO IS LEADING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DELEGATION IN THIS CONCILIATION MEETING IS OPTIMISTIC THAT THE RESUMED DISCUSSIONS WILL LEAD TO THE SUSPENSION OF THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION,

UNIVERSITY LECTURERS HAVE BEEN ON STRIKE SINCE NOVEMBER THE FOURTH THIS YEAR, OVER NON PAYMENT OF EARNED ALLOWANCE AND OTHER WELFARE ISSUES CONTAINED IN THE 2009 AGREEMENT THEY SIGNED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
