President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of retirement age of clinical skilled health workers from age 60 to 65 years.
The Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, made the announced on Thursday during a meeting with key stakeholders in the medical and allied fields.
Prof. Pate stated that the retirement enlongation emphasizes the critical need to enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services to Nigerians and, improving the capacity to continue to train others.
The minister explained that
President Tinubu gave the consent to exempt clinically skilled health workers from the extant retirement age of 60 to 65; with an explicit mandate to follow due process for its actualization.
He disclosed that the Ministry will kick start the implementation process through collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, National Council on Establishment and other relevant stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Prof. Pate has assured all Nigerian health workers that the issue of payment of their 7 months arrears of CONMESS and CONHESS is in progress.
He said,”On the arrears, it will be sourced and released, we are on a track for resolution.”
Furthermore, the minister commended the health workers for maintaining relative peace and harmony in the health sector in the past eighteen months.
