FG Reveals Nigerian Military’s February Operations: 974 Terrorists Neutralized, 1,573 Weapons Recovered

By Daniel Edu

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idiris, reaffirmed the government’s and military’s dedication to safeguarding Nigerian lives and property. He disclosed that in February 2024 alone, the Armed Forces eliminated 974 terrorists, apprehended 621 suspects, rescued 466 hostages, and retrieved 1,573 weapons.

During a Ramadan Iftar event in Kano State attended by journalists and social media influencers, Idiris emphasized the ongoing efforts of the military to ensure national security. He urged patience from Nigerians as security operations continue, assuring that more positive outcomes are forthcoming.

Highlighting recent advancements, Idiris mentioned the acquisition of new weaponry and equipment by the military, including the induction of four new aircraft into the Nigerian Air Force’s fleet. He also cited successful security operations, such as the restoration of peace along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway and the neutralization of bandits in various regions.

Idiris outlined governmental strategies in the fight against terrorism and banditry, including the establishment of the 50 Billion Naira Pulako Initiative targeting seven frontline states. This initiative aims to address infrastructure needs and provide socio-economic support to communities affected by banditry and cattle rustling.

Moreover, he noted progress in combating oil theft, with thousands of illegal refineries deactivated and pipelines disconnected. Security efforts have also reduced farmer-herder clashes in the North Central region, with significant improvements in containing security challenges in states like Niger.

Acknowledging isolated incidents of banditry and criminal activities, Idiris emphasized that these sporadic attacks do not undermine the overall progress made in enhancing community security. He reiterated the government’s commitment to sustaining these efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
