FG seeks ways to stop industrial actions in health sector

Worried about frequent disharmony in the health system, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako has called for ways to stop the industrial actions in Nigeria’s health care sector.

Dr. Salako called for a mechanism that will ensure industrial peace and harmony among the various union bodies in the health sector.
He made this call when members of the National Tertiary Health Institutions Standard Committee, NTHISC, paid him a courtesy visit.

He highlighted the importance of achieving and sustaining industrial harmony in the Health sector, adding that it is critical for the attainment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for improving health care services in the country.

“A mechanism that will stop industrial actions in the health sector is a priority to rebuilding public confidence in health workers and the Government.

The Minister of State therefore charged members of the NTHISC, to initiate strategies that will diffuse tension among the unions in the sector.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Philip Abiodun, asked for financial intervention from the government to enable the committee sought its financial constraints and equipment of office accommodation to enable it achieve its mandate.

The Committee consists of seasoned health professionals with the mandate to make relevant investigations and recommendations to the federal and state governments on tertiary health care services in the national interest, among other duties.
