By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

On his first day as Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi promised to tackle all unresolved issues with Nigeria’s labour unions, including recent “soft threats.”

The Minister made the pledge at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Abuja, where he addressed union leaders, ministry staff, and heads of associated agencies. Dingyadi emphasized his commitment to working collaboratively to foster peace and improve workers’ welfare.

He acknowledged ongoing issues with university-based unions over salaries and benefits, some of which have been partly addressed by the government, though others remain unresolved. Dingyadi assured that resolving these matters would be a top priority.

“Together, we will tackle all pending issues,” Dingyadi stated, stressing that maintaining harmony between workers, employers, and labour unions is crucial. He added that the ministry’s mission extends beyond reconciliation, aiming to promote fair employment practices, productivity, and empowerment for workers.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, also pledged her support, reinforcing the ministry’s dedication to implementing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through improved employment opportunities and enhanced productivity.

Dingyadi urged all ministry staff to remain dedicated to achieving the goals of labour harmony and delivering positive outcomes for Nigerian workers.
