Flood Relief: SOSG and Sen. Wamakko Donate N20 Million, Food, and Other Items to Victims in Tangaza LG

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State government and APC leader in the state, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, have each donated N10 million to communities affected by flooding in Tangaza Local Government Area.

In addition to the financial support, the state government also provided 300 bags of rice and 500 blankets and mats.

This initiative was announced during a condolence visit to the affected communities by Gov. Ahmed Aliyu. The governor described the situation as heart-wrenching and expressed concern over the severe impact of the flooding in the area, highlighting the urgent need for assistance to alleviate the suffering of displaced persons.

He urged the affected communities to remain strong and view the disaster as a trial ordained by Almighty Allah. Gov. Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the recurring flooding issues plaguing various parts of the state.

He also called on residents to maintain clean culverts and drainage systems and to refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal to facilitate the easy passage of water during rains.

“We are deeply concerned about the persistent flooding in our communities. Therefore, it is essential for residents to collaborate with us so we can find effective solutions to this ongoing challenge,” he stated.

The Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, assured residents that more assistance would be provided once the committee set up to assess the damage submits its report.

Earlier, Tangaza Local Government Chairman Isa Salihu Kalanjeni informed the governor that while the flooding caused significant damage to farmland and housing, there were no reported fatalities.

He thanked the governor for his visit, which he said demonstrated the governor’s enduring love and concern for his constituents.
