Former President Jonathan Mourns the Passing of Elder Sister

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, the elder sister of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 70. She breathed her last on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following a brief illness.

A statement from Jonathan’s media office on Thursday confirmed the demise of Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, affectionately known as Amissi. She was described as a retired teacher, businesswoman, mother, and grandmother who led a life dedicated to serving God and humanity.

The statement highlighted her as a devout Christian, a virtuous woman, and a role model both within and outside her community. The family has scheduled the burial for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, with details of the funeral rites to be announced later.

Madam Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including former President Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan. The family is grieving the loss of a beloved member who left a legacy of service and virtue.
