Ganduje assures of sustained partnership with Development Partners

-Flags-Off the PLANE Education Programme

Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has reiterated that his administration is committed to working with development partners towards ensuring quality of education.

He stated this on tuesday while flagging-off the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), a programme of UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) at the Government House, Kano.

Represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Governor commended the FCDO for initiating the PLANE programme which he says would assist in strengthening the quality of education in the State.

“We have launched the Free and Compulsory Basic Education policy therefore we would do all we can to give our support to ensure the success of the PLANE programme”.

“We have already formulated policies on education and also increased the budgetary allocation of the sector all aimed towards developing the sector, infact we appreciate our strong relationship with FCDO he said”.

In her remarks, Hajiya Nafisa Ado,the FCDO Regional Coordinator said the agency designed the PLANE programme as a follow up to UK Government’s commitment to global goals on education to improve access by bringing 40 million girls back to school and enhance quality through making 20 million more to learn to read in primary and secondary schools in low and lower-middle income countries by 2026.

She further said, PLANE is an over £170 million pounds programme which would run for 8 years beginning from September 2021.

Speaking, the Deputy National Programme Manager of PLANE, Mr.Olalekan Sa’id explained highlights of the programme which include offering technical support for the Free Compulsory Basic and Post Basic Education in the State.

He also said that the programme would support improved coordination and development of an organisational framework for implementing Girls Education initiatives and also provide support for improved learning outcomes particularly for girls and children with disabilities through technical assistance to improved teaching and learning practices.
