Jamilu Jadda Garko, a key supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a Tinubu Renewed Hope Ambassador, has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to address what he described as the neglect of northern Nigeria by the Minister of Works, David Umahi. Garko expressed concerns that the ongoing disregard for northern road infrastructure and local contractors under Umahi’s leadership could lead to a loss of critical support from the region.
In a press conference held in Kano, Garko highlighted the worsening situation, pointing out that northern voters, who were instrumental in securing President Tinubu’s second term, are increasingly frustrated by the neglect. “The reason for this press conference is to draw attention to the concerns of President Tinubu’s supporters in the northern region,” Garko explained.
He further accused Umahi of favoritism and ethnic bias in the allocation of road contracts, emphasizing that the region’s infrastructure is being overlooked in favor of other areas. “Look at how he has neglected the northern roads. Drivers and passengers are frustrated and directing their anger at the president,” Garko said. He also claimed that contractors from the north were being sidelined, further exacerbating feelings of neglect.
Garko stressed the urgency of the situation, warning that the future of President Tinubu’s support in the north is at risk unless action is taken. “If the president wants to retain the northern vote in future elections, he must intervene now,” he urged.
The ambassador concluded by commending President Tinubu for his swift action in removing Daniel Bwala from office, a move he saw as a positive response to constructive criticism. “A week ago, I recommended this to the president, and he acted on it. For this, I extend my gratitude,” Garko said, adding that he regularly organizes prayer meetings for the president’s continued success.
