Gov. Bello Grants Financial Autonomy To PAAU of It’s IGR Management, Bags honorary degrees

Kogi state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has granted the Vice Chancellor of Price Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, financial autonomy in the utilization of the internally generated revenue to enhance Infrastructural development in the institution.

The Governor who is the visitor to the University, gave the directive weekend during the 6th convocation ceremony of the citadel of learning, noting that the VC has demonstrated high level of probity and accountability in the management of the resources of the university.

He promised his administration’s resolve to make the institution one of the best state owned universities in the country, stressing the need for the Vice Chancellor not to rest on her oars, saying that there is still much to be done.

Governor Bello said, “the Vice Chancellor is a good representative of women in governance. She is a perfect representation of women in leadership. I have carefully listen to your demands, challenges and the first request I will grant is the 100 percent management of the university Internal Generated Revenue by the management of the institution.”

“You have demonstrated what this administration stands for which is probity, accountability and prudent utilization of resources. You have also demonstrated good leadership.”

“Just within one year as substantive Vice Chancellor you are able to execute projects that have direct bearing on the life of the students and staff including 100 per cent accreditation for the course you offered in this university.”

“The achievement recorded by the VC could have been fruitful without the cooperation and support of the Governing Council, Staff and students of the university and as such I appreciated their collective efforts.”

In her speech, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tenuche said 60 first class graduates from various departments and at different levels, Phd, Masters, Post graduate, graduate and diploma programmes of the University are among those graduating, adding that a total of 20,634 graduates and 1600 from school of post graduate for the combined ceremonies were being Conferred with various degrees.

Professor Tenuche explained that the institution has not been able to hold the convocation ceremonies since 2016 , stressing that the convocation which could have been held in 2020 was cancelled due to advent of Covid-19 in the country which brought about new normal.

The First female Vice Chancellor of PAAU noted that the citadel of learning graduated a total of 20,634 students from 2014/2015 -2019/2020 academic sessions

According to her, out of the 20,634 graduates, a total of 60 made First Class ,while no fewer than 80 made ordinary pass.

She noted that in addition the University also graduated 1600 from the School of Post graduate studies with 87 Phd degrees, 556 masters degrees, 97 post graduates diplomas and 138 diploma certificates.

However, Kogi State governor and the Visitor of the University Yahaya Bello was among the awardees of honorary degrees (Honouraris Causa) for his development stride in Education and rapid development of the Prince Abubakar Audu University , Anyingba.

Other awardees are the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial district, Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho and a Kaduna based industrialist , Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal for their various contributions to education

“Projects commissioned by the governor include Entrepreneurial skill acquisition workshop, one kilometer road within the campus which was named after him, cashew nut processing plant, Mallam Adamu Adamu education complex among others.
