Gov Mutfwang Advocates Tactical Border Management for Security and Prosperity

By Israel Adamu, Jos

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called for tactical and digital strategies in managing Nigeria’s borders to bolster national security and foster economic growth.

Governor Mutfwang made this call while closing the Nigeria Immigration Comptroller General’s Annual Conference, held in Jos on Saturday. Represented by his deputy, Hon. Mrs. Josephine Piyo, he noted that the conference tackled the challenges Nigeria faces in border protection and immigration management.

The governor emphasized that current frameworks for border security are becoming outdated, underscoring the need for innovative approaches to maintain a competitive edge. He remarked that borders extend beyond just land, sea, and air, impacting the nation’s broader security strategy.

Governor Mutfwang urged the immigration service to embrace collaboration, innovation, and solidarity in working toward a future where borders serve as bridges to opportunities, not barriers.

In a statement issued by Martha Nyam, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies. She highlighted the role of advanced technology in enhancing border security and migration management, including the automation of visa and passport processes.

Mrs. Nandap also stated that the NIS is committed to implementing proactive strategies and sustainable reforms based on conference resolutions, aiming to reposition the service to better fulfill its mandate and enhance national security.
