Gov Ododo Condemns Egbe Bandits’ Attack, Vows Justice for Fallen Security Personnel

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has condemned the bandits’ attack on Egbe community in Yagba West Local Government Area, describing it as a senseless assault on the peace and security of the state.The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, made the declaration on Saturday during a condolence visit to the community. He said the government mourns the deaths of police officers and members of the Vigilante Service who lost their lives while defending residents.In a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Unubi Emmanuel, the attack was labelled a “brutal assault on the peace and humanity of Kogi State.”“Their blood will not be shed in vain. We will not rest until those behind this heinous crime are tracked down, apprehended, and brought to justice,” Governor Ododo vowed.

He assured that his administration will deepen collaboration with security agencies, strengthen community policing, and provide additional support to local vigilantes to enhance protection across the state.The Governor extended condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged that government will not abandon the dependents of the fallen security personnel. He also commended the swift response of security operatives and local vigilantes who confronted the attackers.Governor Ododo urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that cooperation with security agencies is crucial. He further warned against aiding criminals in any form.“Together, we will overcome. Together, we will send a clear message that Kogi State cannot be broken,” he said.Earlier, the Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Hon. Tosin Olokun, welcomed the delegation and thanked the Governor for visiting the community in its moment of grief. He said the visit demonstrated genuine leadership and empathy.Also speaking, the State Security Adviser, Rtd Commander Jerry Omodara, highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to secure border areas. He emphasized that Egbe will not be left vulnerable to criminal elements and assured residents of continued protection.

Omodara explained that many of the bandits operating in Kogi are fleeing criminals from neighbouring states. He disclosed that the state government has identified several hideouts and is working with the Federal Government and the Office of the National Security Adviser to track and neutralize the attackers. He further revealed that plans are underway to establish a Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe to address persistent insecurity in the area. He warned that local collaborators and saboteurs will be prosecuted and dealt with decisively.In his remarks, His Royal Highness, Oba Ayodele Irukera, the Elegbe of Egbe, appealed for increased security presence in the community. He noted that Egbe’s border location makes it particularly vulnerable to attacks.The monarch apologized for the recent road blockade by youths, explaining that it was a reaction to the killings. “It is inhuman for five people to be killed in just one day,” he said, calling for urgent measures to restore peace and safety in the community.
