Gov Zulum Pays Sympathy Visit to Baga, Warns Against Colluding with Insurgents

Inspects Solar Irrigation Farms

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, visited Baga town on Wednesday to sympathize with the community following recent attacks by insurgents. During the visit, he issued a strong warning to farmers and fishermen against any collaboration with Boko Haram.

Speaking at the palace of the District Head in Baga, Governor Zulum stressed the importance of adhering to military guidelines to ensure safety in the region.

“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we encourage agricultural efforts, it is crucial that our people remain law-abiding and adhere to the rules set forth by both the Nigerian military and the Borno State government,” Zulum said.

The governor condemned the actions of individuals colluding with insurgents, describing such behavior as “unacceptable” and a threat to the region’s stability.

Inspection of Solar Irrigation Farms
Governor Zulum also inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system in Mile 3, designed for wheat and cassava cultivation. He emphasized the project’s significance in boosting agriculture and achieving food security in Borno State and beyond.

“This irrigation scheme will be a game-changer in our efforts to boost agricultural production and ensure food sufficiency. Similar projects have already been launched in Damasak, Ngala, and other parts of the state,” Zulum explained.

He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for improving food security and livelihoods across Nigeria.

Reconstruction and Community Engagement
During his visit, Governor Zulum addressed the community in Kukawa town, promising to accelerate reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and other critical infrastructure.

Zulum also met with troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion, commending their bravery and pledging the state government’s continued support.

Accompanying the governor were Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Engr. Bukar Talba, Hon. Karta Maina Ma’aji, and other government officials.
